Algeria: Trade Policy Update

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

On January 7, 2018, the Algerian Government issued a decree temporarily suspending 851 products, of which 576 are agricultural. This decree is one of many new measures taken by the government of Algeria to control government spending and offset the fall in energy earnings. This decree overrides last year’s import licensing system. Algerian press reports and communication from the Ministry of Commerce report that this ban will be revised periodically. Post will continue to monitor and report on changes to these measures.
