Link to report:
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) allows import of genetically engineered (GE) products, by permit, based on the 2009 “Law on Genetically Modified Organisms” (“GMOs”) and its pertaining bylaws. To date, the first and only GE product approved for import is GE soybean meal for feed. BiH’s anti-GE border practices, which include random testing, can occasionally influence commercial imports of grains. Knowledge about agricultural biotechnology remains limited, even among scientists and agricultural officials, and BiH largely follows the European Union biotech policy and scientific opinions. It is expected that the country will keep following the EU guidelines on this subject in the future.
