Canada: Canada Announces CETA Cheese TRQ Administration Policy

On August 1, 2017 the federal government announced the new TRQ administration policy applicable to the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) cheese TRQ. The 16,000 metric tons (MT) TRQ of EU cheeses will be allocated as 60 percent to small and medium-sized enterprises (half of which manufacturers and half distributers and retailers), with the balance of 40 percent allocated to large companies (half of which manufacturers and half distributers and retailers). The 1,700 MT of bulk EU industrial cheese TRQ is allocated entirely to manufacturers of further processed food products.
