Chile: Food Processing Ingredients
The Chilean food processing industry represents 25 percent of the country’s economy with annual sales of $34 billion. It is expected that in 2030 the food industry will account for one third of the country’s economy. Nearly half of the industry’s output is consumed domestically while the rest is exported to the rest of the world. Chile is considered a “business center” for the distribution and production of processed foods, with more than one hundred multinationals operating in the country. In addition, Chile enjoys a robust commercial network thanks to its 26 trade agreements with 64 countries. The following value-added food products and ingredients have sales potential in the Chilean market: Healthy foods, gourmet foods, prepared foods, and ready-to-eat meals, innovative natural ingredients, and specialized additives as well as functional ingredients.
