China: China Lowers Applied MFN Tariff Rates on Selected Agricultural Products
On December 18, 2019, the State Council Tariff Commission (SCTC) announced its annual tariff adjustment plan that sets tentative import and export tariff rates for selected commodities in the year 2020. Notably, China has tentatively lowered the applied most favored nation (MFN) import tariffs for certain pork products, seafood, wood products, dairy products, processed fruit, nuts, and pet food. The tentative tariff rates are applicable to all exporting countries. The SCTC announcement does not affect the retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports to China. This report includes an unofficial translation of the SCTC notice and the list of the agricultural commodities subject to lower applied MFN tariff rates in 2020.
