Czech Republic: Agricultural Biotechnology Annual
The Czech Republic generally maintains a scientific approach towards biotechnology. For more than a decade, farmers planted genetically engineered (GE) corn. However, in 2017 and 2018 Czech farmers did not plant any Bt corn. This change in planting practices is a result of producers deciding that this product is too difficult to market and sell. The Czech Republic has not imposed any bans on GE crops. There were no legislation updates or regulatory changes in 2018. A new voluntary genetically modified organism-free (GMO-free) certification scheme was introduced last year.
