Egypt: Egypt Okays Wheat Shipments with Ergot 0.05 Percent or Less
On December 12, 2017, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation issued Decree No.1761/ 2017. The decree reconfirms Egyptian Standard No. 1601-1/ 2010, which is in line with Codex; tolerating the presence of the fungal disease ergot at the 0.05 percent level or less in its imports of foreign wheat. The new decree is in line with Directive No. 48 – Regarding Special and Complementary Regulations for the Importation and Release of Wheat Shipments Imported from various origins which is issued by the Central Administration Plant Quarantine on October 31, 2017 (eliminating the haphazard application of inspection procedures at the port-of-destination and accelerating the release of inbound foreign wheat shipments). Decree No.1761/ 2017 amends Decree No. 3007/ 2001; making it compatible with Egyptian Standard No. 1601-1/2010.
