Egypt: FAIRS Country Report

The new food safety agency in Egypt is now a reality after the Egyptian parliament approved law number 1/2017 establishing the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) on January 2, 2017. The purpose of the NFSA is to unify the Egyptian food safety system through both structural and legislative reforms. The multiplicity of food control authorities has hampered Egypt’s food safety system with duplication and inefficiencies in the implementation of food safety laws and measures. When it becomes operational, NFSA will likely foster the adoption of science-based rules helping to facilitate trade.
