The Egypt Food Service - Hotel Restaurant Institutional (HRI) sector’s sales grew in 2018; reaching $17.4 billion, representing about 7 percent of Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP) of $251 billion. Imports of consumer-oriented products decreased by 4 percent in 2018. Apart from U.S.- origin beef liver, U.S. food and agricultural products imports continue to confront growing competition from other suppliers such as the European Union that benefit from favorable free trade agreements.
