Egypt: Updates on Egypt's Halal Requirements

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   EG2022-0005

The Egyptian Halal Standard Committee completed a first draft of the Halal standard on February 16, 2022. This committee is headed by the Ministry of Trade’s Organization for Standardization (EOS) and includes members of other ministries as well as private sector representatives. After deliberations over the course of five weekly meetings, this draft omits Milk and Dairy Products from the list of products requiring Halal certification. Questions remain on how and when the new standard will be applied.
