Last March, 44 countries signed onto the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Kenya and Ghana have ratified, leaving 20 to ratify before the agreement comes into force. Given the remaining negotiations on technical annexes, country-level ratification requirements and capacity constraints, full AfCFTA implementation is still a few years down the road. However, the AfCFTA is a major step towards greater continental economic integration.
