Since 2006, Hungary has been one of the strongest opponents of agricultural biotechnology in the European Union. Maintaining the country’s GE-free status is still among the Government’s priorities and is seen as a commercial advantage. However, Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture, financial and professional organizations, and plant breeding and research institutions spoke in support of nontransgenic precision breeding.
