India: Cotton and Products Update

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Post forecasts MY 2018/19 production at 28.7 million 480 lb. bales on 11.9 million hectares. The onset of the monsoon was ahead of schedule and its arrival will encourage timely cotton sowing. Indian cotton prices remain competitive, but global demand for Indian-origin cotton remains subdued. Post’s mill consumption forecast is 25 million 480 lb. bales and should make India competitive for yarn and fabric exports.
