India: Cotton and Products Update

FAS Post estimates India’s marketing year (MY) 2019/20 cotton production at 29.3 million 480 lb. bales (37.5 million 170-kilogram bales/6.4 MMT) from 12.45 million hectares of planted area. Domestic wholesale cotton prices were lower by 5 percent from last month, but mill buying is slow due to price volatility. MY 2018/19 cotton exports are down by 8 percent, while yarn exports have remained the same and fabric exports have risen by 13 percent.
