India: Cotton and Products Update - May 2021

Post forecasts MY 2021/22 cotton production to increase by four percent to 29.5 million 480 lb. bales on an area of 12.9 million hectares. Sowing is underway in North India while the southwest monsoon is expected to deliver normal rains over northwest India and above normal rains in Central India. Recent lockdown relaxations in select states will support greater textile manufacturing operations, especially for export products.
