On April 14, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended through May 3, 2020, the nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19 in India. The Government of India (GOI) subsequently released on April 15, 2020, new guidelines for the extension that exempted several additional activities from lockdown restrictions effective April 20, 2020. Most of these activities are related to agriculture and rural areas, and are intended to help re-invigorate rural employment and support agricultural exports.
