In 2021, the Indian government outlined general requirements for the import of dog and cat food products, including the requirement that a veterinary health certificate accompany each consignment. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published a draft vegan foods regulation that defines vegan foods as being foods or food ingredients that have not made use of any ingredients, additives, and processing aids of animal origin. It also has published Ayurveda Aahar regulations that specify the definition and standards of food prepared according to authoritative books of the Ayurveda, as well as a new Genetically Modified or Engineered Foods Regulation.
