India: Outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle Raises Alarm
Media sources report the outbreak of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle across various districts in the Indian State of Gujarat. This fast-spreading outbreak is estimated to have infected over 40,222 animals across 15 of Gujarat's 33 districts. Over 1,000 head of cattle have succumbed to the disease. Farmers and cattle-rearing communities in the affected districts are alarmed with the infectious viral disease's spread. India has yet to officially notify the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) of the outbreak.
