Italy: Italian Rice Overview - Update 2017

Italy is the largest rice producer in the EU-28. According to the latest figures from the Italian Rice Association (Enterisi), Italy’s marketing year (MY) 2017/18 rice area is expected at 229,547 hectares (ha), 1.9 percent less than MY 2016/17. Italy’s MY 2017/18 rough rice production is expected at 1.5 million metric tons (MMT), 5.4 percent less than MY 2016/17, due to the summer drought that affected yields (6.6 t/ha compared to 6.8 t/ha in 2016/17).
