Italy: Rice Area Update 2016

Italy is the largest rice producer in the EU-28. According to the latest figures from the Italian Rice Association (Enterisi), Italy’s MY (Marketing Year) 2016/17 rice area is forecast at 234,300 hectares (Ha), an increase of 3.07 percent compared to MY 2015/16 (227,329 Ha), driven by the higher profitability of the sector compared to corn and soybean.
