Italy’s marketing year (MY) 2017/18 peach and nectarine production is forecast at 1,362,749 metric tons (MT), 8 percent more than the previous campaign (1,262,127 MT) due to increased volumes in the South (+15 percent for peaches and +19 percent for nectarines), despite reduced quantities in the North (-3 percent for peaches and -8 percent for nectarines). Italy is a major EU-28 peach and nectarine exporter. In 2016, Italy exported 252,591 MT of peaches and nectarines, 6 percent lower than 2015 due to reduced volumes to Germany (-16 percent), the leading destination, representing 36 percent of total exports.
