Japan: Japan Approves 139 EU-Proposed GIs for Wine and Spirits

Japan’s National Tax Agency approved 139 European Union (EU)-proposed geographical indications for wine, spirits and other alcoholic beverages on January 19, 2018. The 139 protections will become effective on the date the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement enters into force (currently anticipated to occur in 2019).
