Japan: Japan Issues New Safety Standards for Agriculture and Food

On January 20, 2016, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) issued the 190th Conference for the Promotion of Food Import Facilitation report. The report informs of regulatory actions on maximum residue levels (MRLs), veterinary drugs, food containers, food additives, and standards for raw or frozen fish and shellfish. MHLW will revise the existing standards and specifications for food as shown in this document. Comments should be provided in writing by Wednesday, February 3, 2016, after which comments should be directed to the enquiry point in accordance with the sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement or the technical barriers to trade (TBT) Agreement.
