Japan: Second MAFF 2020 Supplementary Budget for COVID-19 Response

On May 27, the Japanese Cabinet approved a second 2020 supplementary budget totaling 31.9 trillion yen ($298 billion) to help mitigate the economic impact of coronavirus. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is slated to receive 65.8 billion yen ($615 million) to fund a business continuity program, support payments to beef calf operations, and loans for producers. The Japanese Diet is expected to approve the second supplementary budget before the current Diet session ends on June 12, 2020.
