Japan: Vietnam Seeks GI Registration in Japan

Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) received three applications for Vietnamese agricultural products for Japan’s Geographical Indication (GI) registration process. Previously, only one non-Japanese item (Parma Ham) has been registered through Japan’s ordinary GI process. The Government of Japan has engaged with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partners to expand GI protections in recent years.
