Morocco: 2014 Retail Foods Report
In the last few years, Morocco’s food distribution system has seen significant changes with the expansion of retail food outlets and the opening of new supermarket stores. Today, six supermarket chains, held by four operators, are present in Morocco. The group SNI, owner of Marjane Holding group, operates 30 Marjane hypermarkets and 35 ACIMA supermarkets. Label Vie group has a federation of 56 stores, including 4 Carrefour hypermarkets, 40 Carrefour Market supermarkets, 2 Expresse convenience stores, and 10 Atacadao retail outlets. The Turkish deep-discounter BIM
operates 120 stores. Aswak Essalem, owned by Ynna Holding group, operates 12 stores. These supermarket chains are planning to expand operations throughout the country, including opening more outlets in smaller cities and smaller markets. Local importers, however, continue to play the main role in introducing, distributing and promoting imported food products in Morocco.
