Morocco: Grain and Feed Update
For MY 2016/17, FAS Rabat revised post’s estimate for wheat imports from 5 million MT to 5.5 million MT. This change is based on increasing import demand as a result of tightening stocks and the results of the most recent tender. In addition, the MY 2017/18 season started very late, due to rain delays and some areas sowing did not finish until the end of December 2016. According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s latest statement, total area planted to cereals (common wheat, durum, and barley) in the 2017 season, as of January 15, is estimated at 4.8 million hectares.
