Pakistan: Cotton and Products Update

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Pakistan’s 2016/17 cotton harvest is progressing as forecast. Higher prices prompted farmers to strengthen their insect control methods compared to a year ago and progress thus far suggests that farmers are increasing the number of fall pickings. Yields plummeted in 2015 when farmers opted to spend less on insecticides and labor for multiple fall pickings. Yields are forecast to recover and cotton arrivals have crossed 6.2 million 480 lb bales and are expected to reach the current estimate of 8.25 million 480 lb bales.
