Peru: First Seminar on U.S. Southern Yellow Pine Held in Lima through Joint FAS and SPC Efforts

USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and the Southern Pine Council (SPC) held a capacity building seminar with three U.S. southern yellow pine experts. The half day seminar that focused on grading, classifications and characteristics, treated lumber and wood-frame construction practices; held on March 3, 2016, involved participants from government, academia and business leaders like lumber importers, distributors, and wholesalers on the use of Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) for construction. As a result of the seminar, 39 attendees got a better understating on the uses and qualities of U.S. SYP. Also, SPC expects to boost sales of U.S. southern yellow pine to Peru by 30 percent.
