Poland: Poland Declares HPAI Free Status

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

On July 21, 2017, Poland’s Veterinary Service declared Poland as free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) following three months with no HPAI detections. Sixty-five cases of HPAI were detected in Poland from November, 2016 to March 16, 2017, which led to bans of Polish poultry in some export markets and a two percent decline in poultry exports during the first four months of calendar year 2017. The reduction of exports was limited because most Polish exports of poultry meat are shipped within the European Union (EU), which did not restrict Polish poultry. Poland is not currently eligible to export poultry meat to the United States.
