From north to south, and including islands, Portugal is divided into 14 main wine regions, all producing high quality wines. Production for 2016/17 is expected to be 20 percent below the previous year, reaching 5.6 million hectoliters (MHl). The wine sector is focusing its marketing energies on export markets. Despite the decreased wine exports to Angola, it is expected to reach the same export value in 2016 that it did in in 2015 due to the growth reached in alternative markets.
