Brazil: FAIRS Export Certificate Report Annual

This report identifies Brazil’s import requirements for foreign export certificates. An export certificate matrix and outline are included.
The Hong Kong government ordered the culling of 2000 hamsters in Hong Kong. The order was issued over fears of an animal-to-human transmission of the COVID-19 virus after a pet shop saleswoman tested positive for the Delta variant, and samples collected from hamsters at the pet shop were also positive.
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) notified a draft decree to the WTO TBT Committee on January 6, 2022, as G/TBT/N/IDN/140 regarding materials that are exempted from mandatory halal certification.

Poland: Poland Increases the Excise Tax on Alcohol

On January 1, 2022, Poland implemented an amendment to the excise duty act on alcohol. The amendment increases the excise tax on alcohol by 10 percent and proposes the Excise Map, a schedule of additional excise tax increases of five percent each year during 2023-2027.

Ukraine: Ukrainian Draft Order Rescinds EU Equivalency

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine published a draft order which, if passed, establishes a general framework for food safety system equivalency determination. As a part of this framework, Ukraine plans to cancel the Ukraine-EU equivalency status for products of animal origin, which was established in April 2014.

European Union: New EU Labeling Rules for Wines

On December 6, 2021, the European Union published new rules concerning wine, dealcoholized and partially dealcoholized wine, and aromatized wine. These new rules introduce a compulsory nutrition declaration and a compulsory list of ingredients for wine products sold on the EU market beginning on December 8, 2023.

Canada: Exporter Guide

Canada was the number two overseas market for U.S. food and agricultural exports in 2020, importing $17.1 of U.S. high-value, consumer-oriented goods.
Austria, as a member of the European Union (EU), applies EU regulations to the imports of agricultural products. U.S. export certification requirements for most products destined for the EU are harmonized.
Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency invites public comments on its newly proposed guidelines for “additive-free” labeling. The comment period will close on January 21, 2022 (Japan Standard time).
