Ghana: Ghana Oilseeds Voluntary 2022

Marketing year (MY) 2022/23 palm kernel production is forecast at 62,000 metric tons (MT), down by about nine percent compared to Post’s MY2021/22 projection. This is mainly because of an annual three-month drought period (December-February) that negatively affects FFB yield, and consequently kernel yield.

Turkey: Turkey Raises Tariff on Imported Sunflowerseed

Turkey recently announced that the tariff on imported sunflowerseed would increase from zero to 5 percent from October 27 through the end of 2022. This revision coincides with Turkey’s sunflowerseed harvest.

Senegal: Senegal Oilseed Report - Peanuts

Senegal Marketing Year (MY) 2022/23 area and production levels are forecast to increase 1.6 percent and 7 percent at 1.23 million hectares (Mha) and 1.8 million tons (Mt), respectively, on expectations of a good farm gate price, typical weather conditions, and appropriate use of fertilizer. Post forecasts MY 2022/23 exports at 460,000 tons, increasing 15 percent compared to the previous year based on available supply and higher demand.
On October 13, the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) opened a public comment period for proposed revisions to the genetically engineered (GE) labeling requirements of the Food Labeling Standards.

Bulgaria: Oilseeds and Products Market Update

In MY 2022/23 Bulgaria expects to harvest a sunflower crop of 2-2.1 million metric tons (MMT), on par with the previous season. Despite optimistic expectations early in the season based on higher area planted and favorable weather, average yields have been affected by the summer drought and heat, along with higher pest infestation.

Brazil: Oilseeds and Products Update

Post increased its forecast for soybean planted area to 42.8 million hectares for 2021/22, up previously from 42.5 million hectares. Brazil continues to expand its area due to record high domestic soybean prices. Post forecasts a record harvest at 148.5 million metric tons (MMT), increased from 144 MMT previously with planting starting earlier this year as well.

European Union: Oilseeds and Products Update

This report updates several sections of the European Union’s “Oilseeds and Products Annual” report released in April 2022. Updated sections include soybean, rapeseed, and sunflower. Increased areas of about 10 percent for all three major oilseeds but lower average yields for sunflower, and rapeseed are forecast to result in a total of about 3 percent higher production in MY 2022/23.

Argentina: Oilseeds and Products Update

According to the Argentine government, farmers sold a record volume of soybeans, more than 13.7 million metric tons (MMT) in September, after the government offered a special exchange rate for producers. As a result, exporters booked nearly 4 MMT in export declarations, with China as the principal destination.

With favorable weather conditions and an expansion in the area harvested, Turkey’s sunflowerseed production is forecast to hit a record of 1.9 million metric tons (MMT) in marketing year (MY) 2022/23. Production of sunflower meal and oil are likewise projected at record highs.

Malaysia: Oilseeds and Products Update

Post adjusts the Marketing Year (MY) 2021/22 palm oil production forecast down to 18.2 million metric tons (MT), due to ongoing labor shortages. The MY2021/22 palm oil export estimate is revised to 16 million MT, a drop of 500,000 MT due to the estimated drop in production and resumption of Indonesian palm oil exports. Palm oil prices continue to fall as key buyers, India and China, prefer soybean oil to palm oil.

Vietnam: Oilseeds and Products Update

Post revises the total feed demand forecast down to 26.6 million tons in MY2021/22 as Vietnam continues to face issues with African Swine Fever, inflation, and high feed ingredient costs.
