Bermuda: FAIRS Annual Country Report Annual

The United States is far and away Bermuda’s main agricultural trading partner, accounting for nearly three quarters of its imports of agricultural and related products.
On December 3, 2021, China notified 733 maximum residue limits (MRLs) to the World Trade Organization (WTO) under G/SPS/N/CHN/1242. The deadline for comment submission is February 1, 2022. The proposed date of entry into force is to be determined.
On September 16, 2021 China applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Although faced with institutional obstacles for joining the CPTPP, China-based experts have noted that accession to the CPTPP could quicken economic development and trade liberalization by meeting the agreement's high-standards and progressive requirements.

Romania applies European Union (EU) regulations on imports of animal and non-animal products from the United States. The legislation on export certification is generally harmonized at the EU level. Romanian legislation applies to the minor categories on which requirements are not harmonized.

Japan imports approximately 500,000 metric tons of malt annually, which accounts for nearly 90 percent of total demand. While overall beer consumption is declining, malt demand is expected to rebound from a down year in 2020 and steadily grow in subsequent years, reflecting strong demand for malt in craft beer and whiskey production.

The Netherlands, as a Member State of the European Union (EU), conforms to all EU regulations and directives. However, rules for the certification of imports are complicated and, in practice, are not always harmonized across EU Member States.
This report is an addendum to GAIN report number E42021-0072, the EU Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) Report, dated October 12, 2021. It is meant to be read in tandem with the aforementioned report and lists the Dutch import regulations and standards that are not harmonized within the EU, or where the Netherlands varies from the EU standards.
