Bangladesh: Cotton and Products Update

For marketing year (MY) 2022/23, Post forecasts cotton harvested area and production at 45 thousand hectares and 153 thousand bales, respectively. Post reduced Bangladesh’s cotton import forecast for MY 2022/23 to 8 million bales on high international raw cotton prices, reduced garment production due to a domestic power shortage, and the slowdown of the world economy.

India: Cotton and Products Update

FAS Mumbai estimates marketing year (MY) 2022/23 India cotton production at 27.5 million 480 lb. bales, on 13 million hectares. Widespread planting of unapproved hybrids in Central India is likely to improve yields due to its shorter maturity duration which will allow for fewer heavy infestations of pink bollworm.
On November 18, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published the Order F. No. Import/TFM/APEX/2022-FSSAI.
On November 28, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified on its website the Direction Std/SP-05/T(Nutraceutical-2022) (part-1)-Part (1) (October 18, 2022) (see, Appendix I).

Pakistan: Oilseeds and Products Update

Due to uncertainty regarding policy on imported soybeans, the 2022/23 soybean import forecast is reduced from 2.5 to 2.2 million tons. Due to the lower expected soybean imports, 2022/23 crush and soybean meal output is reduced accordingly. Reflecting continued decline in consumer purchasing power due to record level inflation, the forecast for 2022/23 palm oil imports is also reduced.

Pakistan: Cotton and Products Update

While output is unchanged, the 2022/23 harvested area is reduced to reflect the abandoned fields in key production areas of Sindh due to last summer’s flooding. The import forecast is increased to reflect the need to supplement the decline in domestic availability.

India: Coffee Semi-annual

FAS India forecasts marketing year (MY) 2022/23 coffee production (Oct/Sep) at 6.25 million 60-kilogram bags, nine percent higher than the official USDA estimate on above normal southwest monsoon rains (Jun/Sep) expected to improve yields, especially for Robusta varieties in major growing regions.
