Philippines: Non-Alcoholic Beverages Market Brief

The United States is the second largest supplier of non-alcoholic beverages to the Philippines and holds a 12 percent market share. In 2021, U.S. export sales of non-alcoholic beverages reached a record $11.4 million, despite strong competition from within the Philippines and from Asian countries that benefit from zero-tariff trade.

Japan: Biofuels Annual

Japan is updating its transport biofuel standards, which will expire in March 2023. In May 2022, Japan pledged to take all available measures to double demand for bioethanol by 2030. Boosting domestic production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), including alcohol-to-jet SAF, is Japan’s primary focus for meeting that commitment.

Bangladesh: Bangladesh Plant Quarantine Rules 2018

On April 24, 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture issued the Plant Quarantine Rules 2018 to protect domestic plants and plant products from foreign invasive insects and pests. The Rules shared formats for import permits, phytosanitary certificates, and import permit applications.

China: EU Products Seeking GI Protection in China

On December 2, 2022, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) published a notice for public comment on 173 products from the European Union (EU) that are applying for protection as geographic indicator (GI) products.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) recently amended the existing Administrative Measures for Organic Product Certification which was enforced on April 1, 2014.
On November 28, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified on its website the Direction REG-11027/3/2022-Regulation-FSSAI (October 18, 2022).

Bangladesh: Bangladesh Seed Rules 2020

On June 9, 2020, the Seed Division of the Ministry of Agriculture released the Seed Rules 2020. The Rules cover the functions and responsibilities of the National Seed Board, seed laboratories, seed inspectors, seed analysts, and seed dealers, as well as the rules and procedures for seed sampling, certification, and registration or release of crop varieties.
