On October 18, 2022, India's Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)/Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) recommended the environmental release of the locally developed genetically engineered (GE) mustard parental lines bn 3.6 carrying barnase and bar genes, and modbs 2.99 containing barstar and bar genes for the events to be used for developing new parental lines and hybrids, and GE mustard hybrid DMH-11 with these events for seed production.
On October 21, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Direction No. TIC-C-503(T)/1/2022-IMPORTS-FSSAI. The FSSAI direction (guidelines) pertains to FORM-2, Section C as referred to in sub-regulation 10(5) of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) (Import) Regulations (2017).

Bangladesh: Grain and Feed Update

For marketing year (MY) 2022/23, Post's forecast for rice harvested area and production remain unchanged at 11.5 million hectares and 35.65 million metric tons (MT), the same as the USDA official forecasts. Post's wheat production forecast in MY 2022/23 also remains unchanged from Post's previous projection.

Kazakhstan: Grain and Feed Update

FAS-Astana forecasts no significant change to wheat and barley planted area for marketing year (MY) 2022/2023. After production declined due to hot and dry weather last MY, wheat production in MY 2022/2023 rebounded to an estimated 14.5 million metric tons (MMT).
On October 10, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Order F. No. TIC-B02/2/2022-IMPORTS-FSSAI. The FSSAI order requires the mandatory registration with the competent authority of jurisdiction of the country of export, of all foreign food manufacturing facilities intent on exporting milk and milk products; meat and meat products; egg powder; infant food; and nutraceuticals to India.

India: Sugar Semi-annual

India’s centrifugal sugar (sugar) production forecast in marketing year (MY) 2022/23 (October-September) is unchanged from the previous estimate of 35.8 million metric tons (MMT), equivalent to 33.4 MMT of crystal white sugar. Yields from favorable rainfall in Maharashtra and Karnataka are offset by slightly reduced production in Uttar Pradesh due to an erratic 2022 monsoon.
