In 2021, the total value of U.S. agricultural and related products exported to Taiwan was $3.94 billion, an increase of 18 percent compared to the previous year. Taiwan moved up two places to rank as the 6th largest market for U.S. agricultural exports in 2021. This was the second highest year on record behind 2018’s $4.08 billion. Products in the consumer oriented category continue to play an increasingly important role, with beef and dairy products hitting new highs year after year.
On April 1, 2022, Taiwan notified the United States that it had successfully completed an audit inspection of the U.S. system for eggs and egg products. As of May 30, 2022, the United States has full market access to Taiwan for all eggs and egg products.

Effective April 18, 2022, Taiwan temporarily modified its restrictions on imports of poultry and poultry products from the United States and Canada impacted by Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). The modification allows imports of poultry and poultry products from banned U.S. states if the date of slaughter is 14 days or more before the applicable HPAI ban began.

Taiwan: Oilseeds and Products Annual

Taiwan’s soybean imports are projected to reach 2.63 and 2.65 MMT in MY2021/22 and MY 2022/23. Soybean import demand will be buoyed by steady feed demand as well as exports and demand for soybean oil. In MY 2020/21, Taiwan’s COVID-19 control restrictions in Q2-Q3 had some negative impact on demand from the HRI sector, especially for soybean oil and palm oil which are favored in commercial use.
Since the beginning of 2022, Taiwan’s table egg prices continue to set new price records. The egg wholesale market closed at an all-time high price of 80NTD ($2.81USD) per kilogram on March 15. The primary contributors to the recent spike in table egg prices are lower placement of laying hens resulted from high feed prices, culling of birds contaminated by avian influenza, and lower seasonal production cycle.
