This report provides updated information about the adoption of agricultural biotechnology in Vietnam. Since approving all outstanding applications for food and feed use in August 2021, Vietnam has not resumed its regulatory process for acknowledging and reviewing new applications.
Hong Kong’s relevant food regulation contains a positive list of chemicals which are allowed for use as coloring matter. However, this positive list does not explicitly list calcium carbonate as an allowable coloring additive for food use. In this regard, the U.S. food manufacturers, in consultation with Post, wrote to the Hong Kong government to seek clarification on whether calcium carbonate is allowed for use as a food coloring additive.
Post forecasts Burmese rice exports lower in November. Despite the contracted shipment to Bangladesh, slow demand from African countries and high domestic prices will lead to lower exports in November. Domestic prices for Emata increased in November as local traders are purchasing stock in anticipation of a lower production. Prices for Shwe Bo Pawson also remained high.
Indonesia 2022/23 coffee production is expected to rise to 11.35 million bags on improved yields. Domestic coffee consumption is revised down from the last update by 30,000 bags following a hike in fuel prices in September 2022. Green bean exports are revised up to 6.6 million bags on increased international demand and the depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah.
