Senegal: Biosafety Law 2019 - Niger
Link to report:
In October 2019, the Government of Niger promulgated National Biosafety Law 2019-48 which applies to genetically engineered products developed domestically or by a third country. The law covers Living Modified Organisms (LMO) and their derived products and outlines the notification and decision-making process, as well as other areas such as risk management, public education, adventitious presence, and labeling. An advance informed agreement procedure is required to import or export LMO products and their derived products. LMOs and their derived products that are unlikely to pose any risk to the environment, biodiversity, and human and animal health (as identified by the Conference of the Parties and the Meeting of the Parties) do not require notification.
