South Korea: Citrus Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Citrus production in Marketing Year (MY) 2017/2018 is projected to continue a multi-year decrease to 560,000 MT, the lowest production level for the past two decades. Although open field tangerines still make up 75 percent of the crop, the quantity grown in open fields is expected to decrease, while the number of late-grown and greenhouse grown varieties are anticipated to increase. Due to lower production numbers and increased competition from imported fruit, consumption of the domestic crop is also expected to decrease to 508,000 MT. Imports of oranges are also forecast to fall by 13,000 MT, to 130,000 MT due to lower production numbers in the United States.
