South Korea: Update to Korea's New Biotech Labeling Requirements
This is an update to Section IV of KS1711, GAIN Report on Korea’s New Biotech Labeling Requirements. A sub-heading “C” has been added under Section IV. On June 9, 2017, Korea’s Ministry of Food & Drug Safety (MFDS) notified FAS Seoul of their decision to exempt U.S. organic processed products from the mandatory biotech labeling requirement in Korea. This allows U.S. organic processed products that are imported under the U.S. – Korea Organic Equivalence Arrangement to be imported by Korea without any additional documents to prove that they do not contain biotech ingredients. In order to receive an exemption from mandatory biotech labeling before this decision, U.S. organic processed products were required to be accompanied by documents stating that the organic products do not contain biotech ingredients.
