Spain is the largest grower of Bt corn in the EU-28 and it has traditionally defended a science-based approach to agricultural biotechnology. The unusually warm conditions in summer 2015 contributed to an abnormally high presence of the corn borer, which has led farmers to an extensive use of GE corn in 2016.
