Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka Revises Import Control Regulations Further Due to COVID-19
Government of Sri Lanka issued a new notification stipulating temporary import controls for certain goods on May 22, 2020 as an interim measure to minimize the domestic economic impact of COVID 19. The new regulation applies on goods ‘which are loaded to a ship/aircraft on a date not exceeding 90 days from 16 April 2020, from the country where the goods are shipped’. The regulation identifies and stipulates conditions for raw material imports for export processing, temporary imports for reexports, and goods coming for the local market. Accordingly, the restrictions of the regulation apply on food and agriculture related commodities under 39 Harmonized System codes (HS) headings in Schedule I, and 16 HS headings in Schedule II. Food and agriculture commodities under 9 HS headings which were earlier under import control licenses are also suspended.
