The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) has yet to send the draft Biodiversity Law, which includes biosafety regulations covering research, field trial, and commercialization for genetically engineered plant, animal, and microorganisms, to the Cabinet for approval. After receiving Cabinet approval, the draft bill will then enter the legislative process. In addition, the Thai Food and Drug Administration anticipates sending the two new genetically engineered (GE) food regulations regarding GE food imports, production, and labeling to the Food Management Committee before end of this year for final clearance.
