MY2016/17 sugar production is revised down to 9.3 million metric tons, a five percent reduction from MY2015/16 due to severe drought during growing stage of sugarcane crop. MY2015/16 sugar exports are expected to decline to 7.8 million metric tons, mainly due to a reduction in white and refined sugar exports to African countries.
