MY2018/19 sugarcane production is expected to decline 4 percent from MY2017/18 reducing sugar production to 13.8 million metric tons. The new sugar tax has reduced demand for sugar in nonalcoholic beverage production. MY2017/18 and MY2018/19 sugar exports are expected to reach record highs.
