Turkey: Cotton and Products Update
Link to report:
Attractive cotton prices, good yields, and favorable weather conditions spurred Turkish farmers to plant more cotton earlier this spring. Owing to a larger than expected increase in cotton plantings, production in marketing year (MY) 2022/23 is forecast higher at 950,000 metric tons (MT). In contrast, cotton consumption is projected to contract to 1.8 million MT amid Turkiye’s ongoing economic challenges and the threat of a global economic slowdown. In response to these economic conditions and increased production levels of domestic cotton, the MY 2022/23 cotton import forecast is trimmed back to about 1 million MT. The United States is expected to remain Turkey’s top cotton supplier.
