Turkey's food sector is diverse and growing, although an economic downturn is affecting businesses across all sectors starting in the latter half of 2018. U.S. processed food and food processing ingredients face strong competition from local suppliers and from European countries benefiting from proximity to the market and a customs union. While import regulations can be complex, there are opportunities for innovative ingredients and additives, including aromas and flavorings. Particularly among the young and growing middle class, consumers in Turkey have an increasing taste for international flavors.
