Turkey: Oilseeds and Products Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Turkey’s MY 2018/19 oilseeds production is expected to rise four percent to 3.06 MMT. Good returns on cotton and sunflowerseed production are affecting farmers’ planting decisions. Despite the efforts of the government to increase oilseeds production, Turkey continues to be import-dependent due to a net deficit of oilseeds and protein for animal feed. Accordingly, in MY 2016/17 Turkey imported 591,000 MT of sunflowerseed, 958,000 MT of sunflowerseed meal and 793,000 MT of sunflowerseed oil to meet domestic and export demands. Turkey also continues to import large quantities of soybeans and soybean meal, with combined imports reaching a record of 3.05 MMT in MY2016/17. Total imports of soybeans and soybean meal are expected continue to increase in MY 2017/18, reaching 3.2 MMT.
